Have you ever heard of an urgent need in the community around St. Matthew and wondered how you could help or find others at St. Matthew who could join you in responding?
Do you have a desire to help but don't know where your gifts, talents and resources are needed?
By becoming a member of this group you could receive notice quickly as those crises become known and discover whether you are able to help.
Most recently a fire at the Jewish Community Center Senior complex left almost 100 seniors homeless and without any clothes and basic material needs. A public appeal for help went out within hours. Wouldn't it be great if St. Matthew people could step in to help? But who might be interested? Who has the materials or time needed?
Let's get organized in advance so we can respond quickly and in ways that are valuable. Meantime, I'll be getting more information on those needs at the JCC.
Sunday, June 29th is a busy day at St. Matthew, but I just wanted to pass on this request from a representative of the Jewish community.
As a way of celebrating the community coming together in their crisis, volunteers will be painting the construction fence surrounding the burned apartment building at the Jewish community center, between the hours of 11 am and 3:00 pm. We've been asked if we'd like to help with either painting or passing out water and snacks to those attending.
Perhaps some of us could go and help for a while after attending the church picnic.
Thanks so much to those who went to volunteer on Sunday to help sort donations at the JCC! I've heard that some were asked how they came to be there and were able to let them know that their neighbors from St. Matthew want to help.
A phone message was waiting for me today when I returned home asking for more volunteer help during this week between Noon and 6pm. Just drop in for a while to help.
today and following weekdays volunteers are needed at JCC to sort donations and assist fire victims. 30 unfurnished apartments are being used for those with no place to go and many others have lost posessions but are staying with relatives and friends.
Small scale househod items are needed most. Dishes, dinettes, lamps, end tables, small scale living room chairs, tv's, etc
Enough clothing , but.NEW underwear for men a d women is needed.
Hello All!
We just got an update from the JCC regarding the hundreds of displaced elderly residents from the big apartment fire this week.
They need furniture for these people more than anything They have moved and are living in unfurnished apartments. This means elderly people are probably sleeping on the floors and eating from a plate on their lap.
Do you have any furniture you can donate? Please post here, call the church office, or contact Carol asap. Or, if you want, you can just take it down to the Jewish Community Center today.
Please spread the word about this, it's a way we can step in and help hurting people directly.
Do you want to be notified when there's a situation in our community that needs your help? Simply go to this group and hit 'subscribe' on the sidebar. Then, every time there's a new need posted, you'll get an e-mail with that need and some info on how you can help.
Everyone on this website should subscribe to this group! Hopefully we can all band together and show our Christian Love to our community.
