The goal is to mobilize St. Matthew as a truly caring community serving the local community where we live in a very real and visible way. By making this an obvious movement utilizing all kinds of skills/people, the awareness of how God works in our lives will be made apparent to the community.
I know there are many members and even some groups that are already working with people that need help. My goal with this Group to centralize the effort and by doing so create a larger pool of resources to make a larger impact in our local community. By community I'm thinking a 5 mile radius of either campus. If you want to be part of this Community please contact me here.
Sunday, June 29th is a busy day at St. Matthew, but I just wanted to pass on this request from a representative of the Jewish community.
As a way of celebrating the community coming together in their crisis, volunteers will be painting the construction fence surrounding the burned apartment building at the Jewish community center, between the hours of 11 am and 3:00 pm. We've been asked if we'd like to help with either painting or passing out water and snacks to those attending.
Perhaps some of us could go and help for a while after attending the church picnic.
I'm planting a little extra in my vegetable garden this summer in hopes of finding a way to share it with families in need. Does anyone have suggestions about where or how I might connect with people who need it, or an agency that might be able to make use of it?
If there are enough other gardeners who have produce to share, would anyone be interested in setting up a distribution from St. Matthew once a week for families who are referred to us?
