  • What miscellaneous needs there are in the community – for instance rides to work or to shopping

Examples

  • Car Maintenance for Single Moms or those that can’t afford it
  • Find individuals that need an oil change, have wipers replaced, washer fluid filled etc.
  • Work with Murray’s or Auto Zone for:
    • an oil recycling barrel
    • an individual dedicated to obtaining parts during the
    • time of the event
    • discount on parts
    • Have volunteers ready with tools to do the work
    • Have volunteers that can make part runs
    • Have volunteers ready to converse with the vehicle owners while work is being performed. Find out other needs that could be met and obviously invite/make arrangements to have them come to a service

Home repairs

Adopt a home for repairs to make it livable

  • Find individuals that have issues that they can’t afford to fix
  • Have a volunteer to:
    • determine what needs to be done
    • find appropriate volunteers
    • schedule work if it can’t be done in a day
    • Work with Lowes or Home Depot for discount on materials
  • Have volunteers ready to converse with the homeowners while work is being performed. Find out other needs that could be met and obviously invite/make arrangements to have them come to a service
  • Keep a continuous announcement in the Messenger as to the progress if it is more than one days work.

Haircuts

  • Have an event in the basement where needy individualscan come and get a cut and a perm if feasible.

Provide a free Christian based latch key at local elementary schools.

  • Find an individual to approach a principal and make therequest to allow St. Matthew volunteers to provide a latch key service. Jennifer Buzonowski has successfully donethis and would probably give advice
