Lutheran World Relief

We're people at St. Matthew who care about missions. We want to help the poor, feed the hungry, and care for the sick, just like Jesus told us to.
Lutheran World Relief is a great organization who makes these things their mission worldwide. They offer lots of programs for churches, just like St. Matthew, to get involved in...and we have a heart to get our community involved for the benefit of others.

LWR Palms for Palm Sunday?

One of the great projects that Lutheran World Relief is involved with is the EcoPalms Project. Much like the LWR coffee project, the mission and goal of the palms project is to help small farmers in small countries support their families and their villages while spreading the Gospel of compassion.

The project is also an Eco-Aware project as well. From the website:

Words in Red, Lutheran World Relief

I wanted to put up a link to a Words in Red devotion that mentions our LWR quilting ministry. The devotion is really touching and is written by Marianne Henn.

Ordering Coffee, Who Wants Some?

Tomorrow (January 25) we will be placing a new order for Lutheran World Relief coffee (yummy!)

I'm looking for anyone who wants to get in on this order. I will handle everything, I'll just need some money from you once the coffee arrives.

I'm ordering a mixed case of whole bean Organic Columbian and Ethiopian (see very bottom right package here). After delivery, they will be $6 for a 1lb. bag.

If you want a pound or two or ten, please let me know in the comments.

How To Buy Lutheran World Relief Coffee

LWR Coffee Quick Reference:

LWR Coffee Program

Drink Coffee. Do Ministry.

The money you spend on buying coffee could be helping the people Jesus asked us to care for: the poor, the hungry, and the downtrodden.

We all love coffee, don't we? Starbucks is a national phenomenon and, if you're anything like me, you drink coffee at home and work as well. What if something as simple as which coffee you purchased could mean the difference between helping people or putting some money into the pockets of a big corporation? Well, it can.

LWR Coffee To Be Served in January

Good news!
Planning is underway at St. Matthew to enhance the Sunday Morning "between services" fellowship time by adding a coffee bar, similar to the one that was started at the Wixom Campus a few years ago.

It will start as a very basic setup, but the cool part is: The coffee bar will be serving coffee from LWR's coffee project. We'll be purchasing 10lbs of coffee to start (organic regular and organic decaf) and we'll also at the very least make literature about the coffee program available to the folks who are getting coffee.

Blog on LWR Coffee

Matt Farina posted a great blog entry on buying LWR coffee online. You can read it here: http://www.innovatin...

Did you know St. Matthew has an account with LWR for buying coffee and anyone at our church can use it? When you go to buy coffee here just enter in our church code: stma318
