Grass Roots Mission

with Pastor Dion Garrett

(episode 18, posted April 14, 2008)
It's historic!!! A special edition of The Six where Pastor Dion chats with (his first ever) special guest, Bob Christenson, about how one simple missional living opportunity came to be a reality that reached out to a community of people. If you've ever wondered about some of the nuts and bolts of grass roots missional living, it's here for you in this week's episode!

Nice job, Bob

Very nice job. I actually had no idea when I saw all of the stuff on the CPR class that it came about like this, so thank you for sharing this example.

And rather than disagree with you guys, I will also champion the message that this stuff IS really that easy, especially if you're open for the cues. Think about it. How difficult would it be for God to put on a free CPR class for the community around St. Matthew? Because THAT'S who's doing it. Obviously, bigger things require more work and more resources than something like this, but if it's God's will, the paths will be made straight for you to do it.

By the way....how did it go?

it was very impressive. The

it was very impressive.

The people were thankful and curious about us a church. We had many take home bible resources and ask questions.

Most of all they felt that the church cared about them rather than thinking that the church "wanted something" from them. It was a beautifully simple way to bless our community and to expose people to a glimpse of the Christ who motivates us.

Thanks for asking!

Amazing outreach response

I was amazed at the way God used this simple idea to touch so many newcomers!
It's really unusual to see 20 or so newcomers take home more than 20 Bibles and other scripture resources. Several asked about St. Matthew, and one woman was so excited to finally find a church she wanted to attend, that she took home every brochure we offered!

Great job, Bob. You had the eyes to see the opportunity when God presented it and the heart to follow through. It was simple enough, but it did take some time and dedication to make it happen, and to do it so well. Your friend, Dave, did a great job too, both in his teaching and with his servant heart.

I think everyone there felt the loving service St. Matthew provided that day on behalf of Christ.
