We're Artists. We believe that God has made us this way. We're passionate, we're creative, and we see the world differently than non-artists. We also sometimes feel lonely at St. Matthew...

The fact is, St. Matthew is composed, mostly, of non-artists...and it's really hard for us connect with them, isn't it? To make things even more confusing for us, many of these left-brain folks even participate in artistic activities such as music or drama. (and this is GREAT! That's how God has made them!)

Book Discussion Group

This book discussion group began in the Spring of 2003 as a group just for women. About half-way through the second year we opened the group up to both men and women, still under the umbrella of the Women's Ministry. This group is open to St. Matthew members, friends of St. Matthew members, and visitors of St. Matthew’s Church.

Our book selections are a “mixed bag” of fiction and non-fiction. Some are classics, some best-sellers, some controversial, some funny and others down right quirky! They all make for interesting discussions!

well, not all of us. But most of us. At last count there were as many kids as adults.

And yes, we WILL travel
In fact we have to... with people hailing from Redford, Highland, South Lyon, Milford, & Commerce. we've learned to do some driving. It doesn't hold us back though, afterall this is Detroit, we all drive excessively long distances, it's in our bloodstream.

Kids Against Hunger

Kids Against Hunger is a program whose purpose is to provide fully nutritious food to the impoverished children around the world as well as in our local and national communities.

Lutheran World Relief is a great organization who makes these things their mission worldwide. They offer lots of programs for churches, just like St. Matthew, to get involved in...and we have a heart to get our community involved for the benefit of others.

Our group is a fun loving group of five couples that like to have fun and care for each other during the difficult times we face in life. We all have children, but they do not attend our Bible studies.

We live mostly in the Walled Lake/Commerce Twp area, but one family lives in Howell and one lives in Springfield Twp. For our studies we rotate amongst each of our homes. During & after each study we like to snack on good treats provided by the home host. We have social time from 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm, and then we have Bible study from 8 pm - 10 pm and then we'll have more social time.

We are a group of men who come together weekly and are currently using a Bible Study that covers 1st & 2nd Peter and Jude. The emphasis of this study is to help us understand how difficult it is to grow into being a mature disciple of Jesus. The study is designed to help us see how God provides direction and comfort when we travel dark roads of life. It also shows us what it takes to be mature in Christ.

We are a fun group of families that include children from the ages of 1 to 13. Our Small Group believes that children should be a part of our gatherings, so we are one big, loud group when we gather.

We start with fellowship and food, and then children play in another room while we study our lesson. We do get the children involved in serving others by making cards for the sick, putting together craft projects for the Pediatric Wing at Beaumont, and making sure that they understand their role in reaching out to God's children...whomever they may be.

The St. Matthew Choir exists to bring beauty into worship through music. We exist as servants, recognizing that our gift of music comes from God and that we must, in turn, give it away to others. We are a mixed group of mostly empty nesters. We have both couples and single ladies in our group. We meet on Sunday evenings from 6:30 - 9:00 roughly every other week.

We are a group comprised mainly of couples with children. The purpose of the group is to learn and grow spiritually, caring for each other at the same time.

We meet once every two weeks alternating between Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. On Sundays we usually start with a casual dinner.

The group currently has 8 couples with children. It is unusual for everyone to show up at any given meeting. Kids are always welcome.

The meetings rotate in location from house to house depending on who has volunteered to host the meeting.

Or, maybe you have the urge to talk to them, but am unsure whta to say that will make them think and wonder. Do you have a family member trapped in this organization? Let us enable each other, with God's Word and Spirit, to grow His kingdom. There have been big changes in the organization this year. There just might be a "doubter" or a discourgaed soul knocking at your door. Help is available- to help you- learn how to help them.

We are a group of women longing to know Christ in a deeper more personal level by studying His word. We gather together for prayer, study and fellowship every other Tuesday night from 7:00 - 9:30 in room 202 at the Walled Lake campus. Everyone is welcome to join us for bible study at any time. **This group is currently on break until January 2009.**
